The general aim of this study was to investigate the impact of civil war upon education in Lebanon, and more specifically, the way in which it affects the rise of disapproved forms of school behavior among secondary school students.

The study is sociological and psychological in orientation and descriptive and exploratory in approach. The research uses a case study design support by relevant information gathered for the Lebanese situation in general and the Bekaa area in particular, where Jib‑Jannine Secondary School constitutes the main focus .

In order to cover the subject of the thesis, the study is divided into eight chapters.

Chapter One introduces the problem and the purpose of the study , with brief reference to the concepts of deviance and delinquent behavior.

A discussion of the historical and geographical background, origins and development of the Lebanese civil war are presented in Chapter Two.

Chapter Three reviews the literature relevant to the study, using both psychological and sociological sources with reference to war, deviant behavior and the Lebanese context.

The methodology employed in this study is discussed in Chapter Four. The description of results covering the broader social context and the educational context in Lebanon are covered in Chapters Five and Six.

Specific focus on students and school life is taken up in chapter  Seven, while an interpretative analysis of student behavior is presented in Chapter Eight. This Chapter serves also both as a review and a conclusion to the study. An epilogue ends up the thesis and epitomizes the researcher's speculation about the effects of war on behavior.
